Biography

Dr. Gardner is a board-certified pulmonologist and internist with expertise in occupational and environmental lung disease, asthma, COPD, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary fibrosis, critical illness, sepsis, pneumonia, asbestos-related disease, pneumoconiosis, and COVID-19. She is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Maryland and an attending physician at the Baltimore VA Medical Center.

She completed her pulmonary fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, internal medicine residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and her medical degree at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, after graduating summa cum laude in biology from Villanova University. An experienced educator in pulmonary physiology and pathophysiology, she has taught at the Perelman School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Alongside her academic role, Dr. Gardner has maintained an independent practice and consulting business since 2024 — she is retained in both plaintiff and defense matters involving pulmonary and critical care medicine, hospital medicine, and occupational and environmental exposures, and consults for industry and biotechnology.
